Three striking 1930's Schiaparelli statement buttons in fabulous faceted star shapes, moulded from slightly pearlised coral red marbled galalith, an early form of plastic.
These very large buttons are from a 1937 couture jacket. Elsa Schiaparelli was a design maverick who brought wit and sharp tailoring to all her garments, and her attention to detail meant that special buttons or fastenings were often made for her.
We've found a drawing of the jacket featuring these buttons in the book 'Secrets of the couturiers. Each 5cm across, mint condition. Purchased in Budapest.
