We are pleased to be able to preview Maia, our first design led sustainable range. Varied vulcanised rubber shapes are combined with vintage and modern beads and components to create a collection that is striking yet affordable.

This range is produced by using scraps and off cuts from the manufacture of rubber sheeting for the food and allied industries. These are then vulcanised, cut with by water jet and hand finished to create the rich texture and bold shapes of this range.

Since the late 19th century rubber has been vulcanized by heating with sulphur present to improve resilience and elasticity, and to prevent it from perishing.

Most natural rubber cultivation is sustainable, and it helps preserve the environment and reduce deforestation. It is also useful in combating global warming by preserving carbon sinks. The increasing use of synthetic rubber poses a threat to this agriculture. seraglia will continue to work with academics and industry to explore ways of using this natural resource. We are also able to manufacture these items in reclaimed metal.
